Message from the director

With the coming of fall, our week at camp seems a distant memory, but ohhhh what a memory!!! This year’s theme of “Heroes” was very exciting as we challenged ourselves to be “faster than a speeding bullet”, “more powerful than a locomotive” and to “leap the tallest building”. We had the most incredible weather; in fact, I believe it was the best week of the whole summer. We spent a great deal of time in the lake and really enjoyed fishing, tubing and of course the annual “Party boat Tour of the Lake”

This year’s fireworks were spectacular. Every year we are amazed at the show and think that it cannot possibly get any better, but it always does!!!

I would like to highlight two things that were new to camp this year. First, we paid tribute to Quinten Campbell, who lost his battle with cancer in June of this year. A special award will be given out each year in his memory, “The Quinten Campbell Spirit Award”. Quinten loved camp and was eager to try all new things. This award was given this year to recognize someone who modeled that enthusiasm and participated in every activity. This year’s award was presented to Kyle M. Congratulations!!!

Each year, we try to do something at Camp Duncan that we leave behind and will signify Camp Quality. This year, we developed a Place of Solitude. This quiet place, although still in construction, will be a place were campers, volunteers can go to spend quiet time for reflection. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Kendra Faykes for the beautiful willow arbours and bench seat that were made for this project. In addition, all campers and volunteers made a garden stone that will lead the way into the place of solitude and form the floor area. The creativity demonstrated in each and every one of the stones is spectacular. I can hardly wait until we finish this project next year.

This year we will be having a Bingo Bowling party instead of our usual float in the Annual Christmas Parade. This is planned for Sunday November 22, 2009 and as always, we look forward to our Winter Reunion!! (Date to be announced soon!!!)
